The Morris Law Group Team Gives Back in a Big Way

Morris Law Group’s staff has raised $1,187 for our selected charity, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, during the first half of 2020. The recipient for the second half of 2020 for Morris Law Group’s charitable giving program will be the local South Florida chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and improving the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. One of our staff members recommended the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and the Morris Law Group team looks forward to supporting this very worthy cause over the next six months.

How do we help? Our staff sells assorted candy and snacks in the office throughout the year to our coworkers, with the proceeds going to support our selected charity. In addition, our employees can donate $5 per week for the opportunity to wear jeans on Friday, with the entire amount going directly to our selected charity. In 2019, the staff raised more than $2,000 for our selected charities.

Every six months, our staff members have the opportunity to submit their favorite charities or organizations that are near and dear to their hearts for consideration, and the team pulls the name out of a hat. Some of the past recipients of our charitable giving program include: Big Dog Ranch Rescue, the Lupus Foundation of America, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, Junior Achievement, and many others.

Helping Feed Children Impacted by COVID-19

Morris Law Group recently made a donation to help provide food for families who have been impacted by the coronavirus. Since the closure of schools back in March 2020, hundreds of kids in Miami Beach have been without the free meals provided by schools that were their only consistent source of nutrition. Two local moms recognized the need and began raising money through their Girl Scout Troop to deliver groceries to families, but new families have been contacting them daily, and the need is overwhelming.

The mothers teamed up with the Miami Beach Kiwanis Community Benefit Fund and other organizations, including Temple Beth Shalom and Temple Menorah. They have created a GoFundMe page to help raise the funds needed to feed these families until school resumes in August. All of the money raised in this campaign goes toward buying food for the families in need.

For more information or to make a tax-deductible donation to help feed these at-risk families, go to their fundraising page here.

Striving Toward A World Without Cancer

Morris Law Group recently donated funds as a Bronze Sponsor for the Fourth Annual Golf Tournament of the Greater Broward Chapter of the Pap Corps. The tournament helped raise close to $28,000 for cancer research. Morris Law Group is proud to be among the sponsors of this life-changing charity.

The Pap Corps

With over 22,000 members, the Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research is South Florida's largest grassroots fundraising organization. Together, they strive toward a collective vision of a world without cancer. All funds raised at Pap Corps events benefit Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where the physicians and scientists work on groundbreaking research programs to eradicate all forms of cancer.

Last summer, the Sylvester Center received the prestigious National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation, placing it among the top 71 cancer centers in the United States and one of only two in the state of Florida. This means, the Sylvester Center has been recognized by the NCI as an important leader in patient-focused cancer research.

The Pap Corps continues to have a significant impact on South Florida and the cancer research community. Over the years, The Pap Corps has donated over $110 million to Sylvester, including a historic, 10-year, $50 million pledge for cancer research.

How Wearing Jeans Helps Benefit Our Community

Morris Law Group's staff of attorneys, paralegals, and other professional personnel participate in a voluntary charitable giving program supporting a variety of charitable causes each year. By staff members contributing $5 each per week to wear jeans on Fridays, snack sales, and other events, the team was able to raise more than $2,000 in donations for our selected charities in 2019. Jeans day at Morris Law Group

Last year’s fundraising recipients include Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee Groves, Fla., the largest cage-free, no-kill dog rescue in the United States, and the Lupus Foundation of America, the largest force in the fight to cure Lupus, an inflammatory disease caused when a person’s immune system attacks its own tissues. This organization has a special meaning for one of our staff members, whose sister is afflicted with this brutal, unpredictable, and devastating disease. Because of “Jeans Friday,” we donated over $1,000 to each of these worthy charities last year.

Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies

Twice per year, all staff members are encouraged to submit their personal favorite charities for consideration. The team members then draw the charity for the next six months from a hat. The staff selected the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County Inc. as our charity for the first half of 2020.

This worthwhile organization is dedicated to improving birth outcomes and promoting healthy families by providing access to care, education, and support to those facing the physical, emotional, economic, and social challenges of pregnancy and infant care.

We also will be supporting the people of the Bahamas and their ongoing struggle after Hurricane Dorian devastated the islands last fall. We’ll be collecting and donating non-perishable food items, toiletries, and clothing throughout the year.

In addition to our “Jeans Friday” fundraising, Morris Law Group supports Junior Achievement of South Florida in its effort to educate students about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness.

Founding Partner Stuart Morris, Esq., CPA, B.C.S. volunteers as Chairman of the JA of South Florida Charitable Foundation Inc. and serves on the Board of Directors as well. In 2019, with Stu leading the way, the Morris Law Group team, along with our wonderful clients, colleagues, family, and friends, raised more than $17,500 for JA of South Florida through the JA Bowl-A-Thon.

The Morris Law Group team is proud to give back in our own small way. Not only is it rewarding personally, but our contributions really do have a big effect on the local community and the world around us. Morris Law Group Volunteers Annually at JA Finance Park

Morris Law Group charitable volunteersStuart R. Morris Esq., CPA, B.C.S., founding partner of Morris Law  Group with offices in Boca Raton, Aventura, Weston, and West Palm  Beach, recently received an award for his significant contributions  serving on the board of directors of and volunteering for Junior  Achievement of South Florida (JA) for nearly 15 years. In addition, Mr.  Morris is the chairman of the board of the JA of South Florida  Charitable Foundation.

JA of South Florida is near and dear to the attorneys and staff members  at Morris Law Group. The partners and staff at the firm volunteer  throughout the year at both JA Finance Park at the Broward Community  College campus and at the annual JA Bowl-a-Thon to help raise funds for the very worthwhile organization that teaches students about the concepts of personal financial management.

JA provides real-world training and education to local eighth graders on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness. It’s their mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA of South Florida has more than 7,000 dedicated volunteers who enrich the lives of thousands of students in Broward and south Palm Beach counties each year.

The attorneys and staff members recently spent the day volunteering at JA’s Finance Park, assisting and mentoring local eighth graders from Silver Lakes Middle School as they learned some real-world lessons on managing their income, expenses, savings, and credit.

About JA Finance Park

At the Patten Family Foundation JA Finance Park, more than 20,000 eighth grade students from Broward and south Palm Beach counties each year learn how financial decisions will impact their lives. These include expenses related to family health care, real estate and home improvements, automobiles, insurance, entertainment, education, and purchasing items such as clothing, furniture, and groceries. Prior to visiting JA Finance Park, students engage in a comprehensive classroom curriculum that teaches them about finances, careers, income, expenses, savings, and credit. This program helps students recognize that their education decisions affect their career options and have an impact on their potential income and quality of life. At the end of the classroom instruction, students visit JA Finance Park and put what they learned into action by managing a real-world-inspired personal budget based on local careers in a simulated city. Students are guided by trained volunteers.
